Holy Land Oil Lamps
The terra-cotta (baked clay) oil lamps were made in the Middle
East from the earliest times. The oil
lamp was made of fairly course, porous clay that when fired
assumes a color ranging from dull ochre to red and is usually
left unglazed. It was the source of light in every household,
just as we use light bulbs today.
These oil lamps were made in the Holy Land almost 2000 years ago. They have survived intact since the 3rd and 4th century AD. No two oil lamps are the same and are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a modern acrylic base.
