The New World

From Mesoamerica to Spanish Treasure

Deep in the heart of the Central American jungles lie the fabled temples and palaces of the Maya and Aztec. Without the advantage of the wheel, beast of burden, or metal tools, these innovative people carved out great cities with an astonishing degree of architectural perfection. They charted the heavens, were masters of mathematics, the calendar, and writing. Further south, the Inca were laying thousands of miles of roads, communication systems, and suspension bridges.

News of the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus in 1492 surged through Europe with earth shaking force. Nothing would ever be the same. The Renaissance, a rebirth of learning and culture that began in Italy in the 1300's, was now in full bloom. Aided by an Aztec prophesy, Hernando Cortes led the invasion of Mexico, and eventually all of the Americas, with the call for God, Gold, and Glory.
